Default VW GTI's

I know i could do a yahoo search and find alot of answers.... but id rather get peoples opinions here too....

first off.... if you were going to buy a newer or new GTI... which model/engine combo would u get? What options?

Overall.. what do u think about the GTI's? Pros/cons... i know reliability isnt always great, but i think its just something to deal with.

Heres the story... I have a 94 honda accord... and have future plans for the car... exhaust, header, kit, seats, etc..... but it seems like this might be a waste of money, considering the car is 10 yrs old, with 155k miles.... auto slowmatic. I'm thinking a better decision might be to just get rid of it, and start off with a new car, or 1-2 yrs old.... so atleast im not just throwing money into something thats not gonna last *that* long.... and more money is going to be needed to keep it from aging.. paint etc....

So what do u think?

heres a pic of my car... as it is now. I live at home, no bills besides the car and school.... Make about a whopping $750 after taxes a month(part time). About $1,000 in checking, and $3k in savings as of right now.

Wow... that's clean... very clean.

Honestly, with a car that looks that nice, I'd just keep it. A VW could end up running you into the ground with repair costs, and that car is purty.

I'd keep it and run that car into the ground before you buy something new. It will be easier on your pocket if you save a LOT more before getting another car.

With the amount of money you're making, it's not really worth buying a new car at this point.

BUT if I had to make a recommendation, an MK3(?) 1995-1999 GTI VR6 works well. They're pretty reliable all considering. Avoid newer bodystyle 1.8T's.

I'd continue with your mods, and when your engine is on it's way out, do an H22A4 and manual transmission conversion. It'll be like getting a new car (most H22A4's you get are around 30,000 miles old).

You're in SoCal, it won't be hard to find a shop to do this. Plus, your paint and everything else seems to be in tip-top shape.

Good luck bro.

Personally? If your gonna go VW, you might as well utilize your interest to the fullest extent. F*ck a pansy GTi...if you want balls out all around performance, go Quatro. You can get a slightly used A4 1.8t for the same cost as a GTi h:

IMO of course h:....I <3 u jimmycap

Don't get it.....save your money dude....you're young right now.

AND if you MUST get a GTI....either wait for the R32 or get the AE 20

R32 = $32,000
AE 20 = $25,000

I think he was looking for cheaper models. Both are nice though, even though the AE 20 uses the 1.8T

what makes you think the A4 is any better? Audi is owned by VW. Same engine/chassis, etc.
