GUNK: any one used it?
BDI's, if you want to try a polymer that you can find readily, Meguiars #20 is a good one. If you just want a good regular wax go to your local Harley Davidson Store and pick up S100.
I don't know of any engine cleaners, I clean the engine often enough so that I don't need to use anything harsh.

"YoSteve has it right here - If you're truly concerned about moisture in your engine compartment cleaning it by hand is the route. I like to use Simple Green but your results will be as good with the other degreasers/engine cleaners. One tip...in addition to your spray bottle of cleaner have a spray bottle of water available. You'll be able to localize where you put the water and if it is really a mess you'll need the extra water or you'll end up wasting your degreaser.
I can't say anymore about the PC. Just get one w/some aggressive pads. I'd suggest a few hours reading up on some of the views here, tons of great info on pads, polish/cleaners and PC techniques. "

Well, here's one on Gunk:
"Gunk makes a citrus cleaner which I hear is pretty good. Myself, I have mostly been using Simple Green and plain old car soap. But I bought a CD2 engine detailing kit and will be trying it out soon."
"I think the general consensus is that Simple Green left on aluminum for long periods of time will stain,"
"I stay away from simple green after using it on my engine once. It turned all of my hoses grey/green and I had to use a rubber dressing to get them back to black. I have heard that citrus degreasers will not do this."
Simple Green = NO
Another thing somebody suggested is to go to your local spray and wash (self wash) and use their engine cleaner setting. Remember to cover electrical things (alternator and coil pack--err, dist. in your case with aluminum foil or seran wrap). Oh, and don't leave the seran wrap on when you drive away of course.
After winter this year I used the local self-wash with the engine cleaner setting and it did work pretty well.

"Two products that I use for engine detailing are the CD-2 Engine Detailing Kit (You can do a search for that here. There are links.) and Advanage concentrate. I actually mix the Advanage with some degreaser concentrate from ValuGuard. That degreaser will clean up just about everything. I swear by that stuff now. The CD-2 is what I use to shine up the hoses and plastics under the hood. The majority of the work gets done by my brew though. I've got a couple great examples in my gallery if you want to go up there and check that out. I'm sure you've already seen em if you've been searching for engine detailing threads. I just have nothing but good things to say about those products."
