Default AV peoples! v. center speaker

Yo yo yo.

I wanted to take a look at center speakers for my living room. Right now I have a 2.1 with some cheap Sony bookshelves. What are you all using?

I am looking for something with a low height. Recommendations?

I can recommend Martin Logan Motion without any hesitation.

I really like this new one. I want to upgrade to this one but got some big expenses coming up so I can't justify spending more money.
Amazon.com: MartinLogan Motion SLM Hi-Performance Flat Panel LCR Speakers - Gloss Black: Electronics Amazon.com: MartinLogan Motion SLM Hi-Performance Flat Panel LCR Speakers - Gloss Black: Electronics

comes with horizonal stand: http://www.martinlogan.com/motionSeries/motion-slm.php

I have this one:
Amazon.com: MartinLogan Motion 8 Center Channel Speaker (Piano Black, each): Electronics Amazon.com: MartinLogan Motion 8 Center Channel Speaker (Piano Black, each): Electronics

Only thing I don't like is that you need a stand if you're going to put it on the floor, but as I recall you have a stand for your TV so you wouldn't need to put it on the floor.

As you know I went through about 4 different iterations in the last 5 -8 years of trying different center channel speakers. Martin Logan was the only one that met and exceeded all my expectations. Don't cheapen out on center like I did previously. Go for a really good one, so you don't end up spending money over and over again.

Also the center speaker we built is yours if you want it

All this surround system talk has me wanting to buy one.

Any recommendations on a 3.1(ish) around $200 that would be a significant improvement over stock HDTV speakers?

At high volumes my Sanyo 42" makes an annoying "tinny" sound, and we rent enough BR movies now to justify the cost.

Go 5.1.

You can get some cheap HTIAB's now. I don't really recommend them, unless you just want a basic setup.

HTIAB?

I do want just a basic setup. And my living room is huge, but the arrangement wouldn't work well with a 5.1, unless they are wireless....which I'm not willing to shell out the dough for.

Or were you even talking to me? :chuckles:

Pieced together setup HTIAB. I have an athena center channel. Was inexpensive and I love it.

Also have the matching floor standing l/r fronts, and satellites.

Yes, you!

HTIAB = Home Theater In A Box
You can get a nice setup for like $200-$300 for a receiver, and 5.1 speakers.

I had a feeling that my dick in a box had something to do with it.

I'd really have to put on my engineering cap to do 5.1 without having a bunch of ugly cables going in different directions.
