Default Official 2011 Tax Return Thread

How much are you getting and what are you doing with the money?

2011 was the first (and probably the last) year I worked almost exclusively as an independent business (1099-MISC), so I didn't have anybody to withold my taxes from my paychecks. I wasn't sure what to expect since the tax rates are different for independents, so I withheld 1/3 of my income in a savings account and figured that would be good. Turns out it wasnt' a great year for me income-wise, and I ended up saving about $7,000 more than I needed to (so like a self-imposed $7033 tax refund.

I just e-filed yesterday and I've already dropped the SAABaru off for window tint. I'm thinking about getting a roof rack too. And I'm going to start shopping for engagement rings (yes, you read that correctly). Probably some truck parts between now and spring, and the rest will serve to replenish my bombed-out and depleted savings account.

No idea what I am getting. Maybe I will mess with Turbo Tax today. But the money will go right into savings to reno the bathroom.

Lack of deductions here also, no tuition deduction. We'll be lucky to break even.

Made more money this year than last year, and really don't know what to expect. Hopefully with student loan interest I can break even.

Need to play around with mine when the W2s come in. GF and I are debating who should claim our son. We're unmarried... so basically were gonna see who gets more of a return or will benefit from claiming. I make more than her at the moment I think I would benefit more h:

Anyone have experience?

I'll owe probably $2000. I don't get taxes witheld from my checks either.
