Just got our income statement from our rental property management company today, already got our W-2s, but still waiting on a couple of 1099s. Will plug everything into Turbotax to get an idea, and then probably take it to an accountant friend of ours. He got us about $4k more back last year than we were expecting.

claimed my girlfriend as a dependent

getting ~$2300 back.

first full year in the house and numerous raises helped too.

i'm also most likely getting profit sharing from geico at the end of february, so i'll have quite a bit of money coming in.

going to:

- pay off visa
- buy an ipad
- save the rest to put towards a down payment for a car and for our trip to florida and arizona in may.

Try it both ways and see which one works the best. It may bump one of you into a lower tax bracket, but no way to tell until you plug in the numbers.

Nothing gets withheld per se... just set aside as I go along.

On the bright side, I'm not giving the IRS an interest-free loan each year..
