Default Thinking of buying a Civic of some sort, idea's comments?

Hey,

Right now I drive a 2002 Cougar (V6 - 5spd) but I like Civics, they're just neat looking and seem like they would be a blast to modify...

I'm looking for an older one 92-96 I guess, something I wont have to pay more than $2k for ? The cheaper the better, I've got massive car payments with the Cougar... and only come out with about $800 a month spare money after all my bills, but that doesn't mean I have $800 a month to go soley to a Civic...

My questions are I guess are:

1.) How slow are they stock?
2.) How much is insurance usually? (I'm 17)
3.) What should I get? (CRX, DX, etc...)
4.) Do I have to do an engine swap to make it as fast as Celica's and Eclipse's or are they already that fast?

So sorry to sound like such a newb but I know hardly anything about these cars.

Thanks

1.) 17's in the 1/4
2.) probably 100-150 a month, depending on coverange and record
3.) If you don't want an engine swap, an si or ex...
4.) It's just as fast as RS/GS eclipses...but a b16 swap will make it faster than a celica GT (not sure about the GTS) and up their with the GSX/GST eclipses.

somebody correct me if I'm wrong here...

The best thing to do is get an ex or Si (95) and swap an integra engine in it. In other words the engine codes are in the B series.

a b16a swap is basically the engine from a 00-01 Civic Si (and a few others, :blah: ). It's got 160 (170 maybe? I always get its power #'s confused with the b17a) HP, and its dohc vtec. When transplanted into a smaller body, (ie, a civic hatch), you can get very decent times and still be extremely reliable. This is one of the most common swaps for a civic.

whats the point of buying an Si if you're going to swap in a b16 anyway? Might as well get an HF and save some money.

How much does an Si engine cost? new or used...

What kind of Civic would I have to have to put that engine in it? Or are they all pretty much universal?

Thanks for the fast responses
