my house has a burgular alarm on it. when the alarms goes off, the alarm people gets a call and notifies the police or whatever. and that is done through our phone lines.
i know that there needs to be a special installation if i wanted DSL, so they can share that line.
but now, my alarm has been disconnected. it no longer makes a call to the alarm people. all it does is rings its bell.
my question is, will i still have problems doing the installation of DSL myself?
thanks.
h: one final step before i sign up for broadband.

as far as the alarm, most have an iw w/ 2 pairs (red/green & black/yellow) the red/green is attached to the ebm just like a regular iw would be. this takes the dial-tone to the alarm & the alarm send the dial-tone back out on the yellow/black which attaches to the regular iw to all your phone jacks.
the reason it is wired this way is so that the dial-tone is "service interruptible". meaning, even if you are on the phone, if an alarm sensor goes off the alarm can cut you off & sieze the dial-tone to phone the police, etc. if the alarm wasn't the first thing in the loop it couldn't do this & having a mopnitored alarm would be useless.
sorry, but i seem to be posting a novel everytime i reply to something of this nature
