so i registerred a domain name...

Default so i registerred a domain name...

...now i want to host the website at my own house. how do i either setup my DNS on my linux box or windows box, and how do i direct my domain name to my public ip address?

can anybody here help? or direct me to where i can get good help? THanks

arent u a computer guy :squint:

ud have to setup a nameserver (?) i dunno.. ur hosting off ur computer?

ya, i've set up DNS on my windows 2k server box. i can ping like yahoo.com and stuff using my private IP as my DNS server. but say i try to ping my domain name, it says "unknown host"

it takes a while for the domain name to synchronize w/the net.. wait a day or two, maybe 3 :dunno:

Update the IP with your registar. It takes up to 72 hours to update. This is standard internet propogation time.

to ensure your router and linux/wind0ze boxes are properly configured, you can always go to http://(your ip) and see if it comes up. When DNS updates on the web, you'll be good go to. I had to wait a while for mine to update for my gaming guilds site. All I have up are forums right now though ... Im not very creative.

well when i plug in my IP i can see the page no prob so i know that's ok...just hope my DNS is configured properly

As long as you updated with the registrar you bought the domain name from, it will be working within 72 hours.
