Need Computer Help
you can try that but it should be too much....make sure both the heatsink and the cpu are clean then put a tiny dab on each then spread evenly with a credit card or sumthin similar
make sure its all secure because amd's burn up within a second of taking off a HS(if its actually running, not ur turning on problem)

well, I never actually put thermal grease on it originally (someone had put the HS and CPU in for me). He told me what comes with the HS and CPU from AMD should be enough. I am hoping I do not have to RMA it cause I really want to get this thing running
there was nothing on the bottom of the HS....my intel p4c came with a thermal pad. i used that then took that off and put some generic paste. it shouldnt be metal angainst metal(even tho thats the best heat transfer) because there's microscopic hills and valleys that are filled by grease/paste
That happened to me when I built mine. I just went through and triple-checked everything to make sure they were all installed right, then it worked.
Disconnect everything except for the minimal stuff needed to boot up, to make sure your mobo and processor are fine. Just hook up video, CPU/Heatsink/Fan, power switch, and main power to the motherboard. If it still won't boot up, take the motherboard out of the case and try again, to make sure it's not shorting against something.

I built the computer originally and then it just shut off and would not turn on again. Replaced the PSU and still would not work, replaced the mobo and now I am at this situation. Currently, the thermal pad is still on there from the HS so maybe I will try and remove that and put some paste on. As for grounding, I used the brass spacers and screws and it is not touching the case at all.
well, turns out to be the CPU. Brought it to a friend's house and it was reading a code of CPU installed incorrectly or not functioning. Brought an 1800+ over and the computer posted to the bios so its off to AMD it goes.
remove all the cards (pci etc) and then boot it up again.
un plug all the ide devices except the primary master hard drive
there could be many things causing this. my friends computer was doing it and it ended up being the on-board video that was the problem
edit. nevermind, see you fixed it. congrats.
