ive read a survey somewhere and it says if u keep being engaged too long....its a sign that u shouldnt get married at all..

The reason I ask is because I am engaged and we are planning on getting married with in a year.

I don't see why it matters. The difference between dating exclusively and being engaged is all in your head anyway.
Now, if you asked how long people should date before they get married, that's a different story. But even then, it depends on the people in question. Everybody's different. And like my aunt said, you can be with somebody for 2 years or 10 years, and you'll know them just as well...people always change.

i think im going to propose to my girlfriend within the next year.

we might be engaged for up to 2 years, depending on how good the planning of the wedding is going.
