I proposed to my girlfriend on her birthday this year (March 2nd) and we are getting married in Maryland March 20th of next year.

My hubby and I were engaged for 3 days short of 3 years. That "you should get married within 2 years" thing is total bullshit. Sometimes circumstances prevent a wedding within that time frame. For us, it was his education -- we both felt it was important for him to be done with his bachelor's degree before we got married. We were married on March 30, 2003, 2 months before his graduation.

The time frame is different for everyone. Do what is right for you and your fiancee. By the way, congratulations!
