Default Graphics geeks...help me out here

I am thinking of getting a new toy since I seem to be running an archaic setup here

I have ordered a new laptop to replace my current one (older than Moses) and was thinking about getting an editing tablet to finish the upgrade.

I have been looking and not quite sure if I am looking in the right area. Aiptek has one that is 512 pressure point sensitive with a 12x9 pad and includes a pen and mouse for a more than fair price.

Is it worth the $149.99 they are asking? Does anyone use the editing tablets? and are there any recommendations for a fairly serious though unpracticed hobbyist?

Well I got the answer and I am searching for a Wacom Intuos graphic pad

I use Photochop, Corel, PSP, Micrografx 3d, and Bryce at a hobbyist level but am getting a bit more serious about my graphics as of lately and decided it would be nice to have a tablet based setup to work with.

I was going to say Wacom too..

Sounds like you're on the right track.

Well it really isn't a matter of speed, but rather a matter of accuracy and flow when using the pen tools. There are some effects you just can't get from a mouse or a trackball no matter how you try.

i gots as table, its the "better" one with the most levels in it and everything, not the toy version with the fruity colours. it kicks ass for drawing free hand curves in illustrator. i don't use it much in photoshop except to edit and mask.. the thing is i only had enough money for the 4 x 5 i think it is.
i originally got it cause i saw some instructions on the web where this dude made this crazy drawing of a face and he said he used the table to draw each individual hair...

I am assuming you have the Wacom Intuos 2 4x5 pad?

Well what I mean is that the tablets have angle settings as wel as pressure sensitivity which means in one stroke you can make a line of varying opacities as opposed to having to go back and edit it that way manually with a mouse over.
