largest single-cylinder production engine: Karl Benz's 1.7L 1-cylinder engine from 1885, EXTREMELY popular in its day. 103.2ci. Bore/stroke was 4.56x6.3, and it made upwards of 1.5hp

also interesting: the Lancia Lambda featured what was considered the roughest running production engine of all time, was a 13-degree V4 (!!). It was 2.1L (129ci). Made ~38hp. They made no effort to correct the balancing issues a 13-degree V-engine had.... you know how an old V8 like a Chevelle fires 1-2-3-4, 5-6-7-8 and shakes the frame when it's revved? This Lancia did the same thing...

If we can include buses, the Reliant Model 686 redlined at 2600! A supercharged straight 8 displacing 686 cubic inches (11.24 Liters!!!), it put down well over 1500 lb.ft. of torque at ± 1100rpm!

EDIT:  Reread the original post. No buses. Oh well.

Here's one:

A 1960 Fairthorpe Atomata 2dr Coupe weighed in at 880 lbs.
Powered by an OHV Inline Twin (air cooled, by BSA) displacing 646 cc, the motor was rated at 39hp @ 5700rpm ; 36.1 lb ft at 3750rpm.
Top Speed: 75-80mph.

Actually, I think the EK CTR beats the NSX for specific output.... if that's what you mean by most powerful. :dunno:
