good luck...i won't bore you with my $.02; everyone else here pretty much summed it all up but go to this site: cycleforums.com and check out the newbie section and do searches for topics on beginners and such...a plethora of info there and, for the most part, very helpful...

I was at the grocery store tonight and I read a comparison chart about 4 of the best 600cc bikes... the GSX-R came out on bottom. The Honda and Yamaha bikes, I believe came out on top with a score of 91.0 and 92.0, respectively.
