So what's any different than a lesbian couple and a straight couple that doesn't have any kids? Either way they're doing the same amount of procreating.

Just because the potential exists doesn't mean that a kid pops out every time a man and a woman have sex. People do get married and not have kids, and in that case they would be producing the same number of offspring as a gay or lesbian couple.
