It's a 10 day waiting period in California. To purchase a handgun, you first have to take a written test and obtain a basic firearms safety certificate. I believe you now also have to sign a waiver stating that you own a gun safe approved by the State.

Definitely take a class first.

My Glock 26 (9x19 subcompact) was 399 new. Its nice to be able to get the LEO prices. I would recommend the compact size ones. Still plenty large, but not too big. Like the 9x19 G19, .357sig G32, .40s&w G23.

The 9mm seems to be the most popular. Ammo is cheap I usually pick up 1000rds of ultramax reloads for about $90.

i have a Russian Makarov 9x18. Was cheap, very reliable, makes a great conceal carry weapon. ammo is also pretty cheap, but you've usually gotta order it. $105 for a case of 1000 rounds. $110 if i want 1000 rounds of hollow point ammo.

Paid $175 for it once i left the gun shop, the made me buy a $12 trigger lock that was $5 at walmart, but PA law stated i couldn't leave the shop w/out one. And, uh, if you're in PA and you have a clean record.....i was in and out of the gun shop in 40 minutes on a friday night.

Yeah, take a class first

10 days waiting period and you have to pass the BFSC

Also, if you don't pass the BFSC, you don't deserve to own a gun. Seriously, I can't say that in any nicer ways.

My favorite gun right now is the Colt .45 pistol. I can't say much for accuracy since I am not the best marksman on the range...LOL.

Oh yeah....the DE .50 is too big for my hands to have full control. I mean, I can shoot it...but it's not too comfortable.
