ok.......I've never driven a manual, but I just got a summer job that requires it for the summer where I'm driving a 93 civic and I gotta learn by saturday. I was learning today on an old early 80's ford truck that sucked so it was a little bit tougher. How long did it take you before you were completely comfortable driving one?

i tried learning before i got the car, and it took a few tries to get it. but once i had my car, it took about a week to be 100% comfortable driving it without stalling.

i drove my buddy's old school 85 or 87 accord for a lunch break after reading up on some website on how to drive stick.. for a few days. i kinda already knew by watching other friends and video games, the sounds and stuff. i didn't stall the very first time but i hopped around and other stuff and stalled afterwards trying to test the clutch. after a week i went down and test drove the car i was going to buy. it seemed easier than the accord. and then 3-4 days later i went there again and drove it home. about one hour drive, mostly highway. stalled like three times on hills. but my dad was behind me so it was all good. took another week or two practicing on steep hills. its been two years. i stall a few times a year backing up in reverse on a hill, or if i'm low on gas and carrying people cause of the weight.

when you don't ride around with fatties on a daily basis you might stall on a hill with them like frank said

hmmmm, pretty much 1 day. Lol, oh man, you shoulda seen me hopping leaving the dealership. By that night I could shift smoothly, next day I learned how to rev match when gearing down to smoke anything that tries to pass me

Prolly a week to be TOTALLY comfortable. It was funny though, a few days after I got it, I just came to an intersection and stopped at a red light........without putting the clutch in. I had the music loud and didn't realise why the car kept trying to go lol. My friend laughed at me for a good hour or so :dunno:

roughly an hour for the basics, stopped stalling after about 3 hours. anytime I stall now it's because I forget if the car's in gear
