Dude, you need to go look at tv's before you just pick one and buy it. Find the one you like the picture of best that's within or close to your budget, then search online. Besides Fry's, Sears has awesome deals on TV's and will price match -10%. But definitely go check them out, and buy your tv from a reputable place...not some random discount website.

I wasn't trying to buy one, that's why I didn't want to enter a credit card number. I'm just looking right now to see what TVs are in the price range. There is only one store in town that has TVs and that's walmart. I'm trying to get an idea of what models to look at and what's a good price before I drive an hour each way.

Do you have a Sears nearby? Their prices are better than Fry's right now, at least on Panasonic.

sort of, it's really small. last time I was in there they didn't stock much in the way of TVs. but they still might be an option of shipping to store for pickup.

My 27" Sony just crapped out after about 20 years, damn that thing is heavy. Great speaker setup though. 6 of them, with two rear firing that have a sort of vent thing to the front. Got a Phillips 32" LCD for sub $300. All that stuff is made in China anyway, heck they make the LCD screens for our military. Other TV is a Vizio that is 40 something inch, had it 3 years without a glitch.

Plasma is the bomb diggity, but I am too cheap. Not cheap enough to shop at Fry's, but pretty cheap.

most of the screens are made in the same factories(my TCL has a samsung screen) but the power supply and other parts are made by the manufacturer. from what I've read one of the most common things to go out on the cheap ones is the power supply.

bust buy has a 50" panasonic plasma for $600, I might just have to go take a look.

it's 720p :hs:

from experience you probably won't tell the difference between 720 and 1080, I mean you can but I have a feeling that you won't miss it if you don't have it. The only time I've seen this become a serious issue is at these sizes at extremely close proximity to the TV, at which time the other imperfections (quantization and blocking) of the source material to me is MUCH more noticeable and distracting.

That is unless you need it for a computer monitor as well, at which point 1080 is probably the best choice.

I came to the same conclusion.

After looking around at best buy I decided the color saturation on plasma was better. LCD by comparison looked somewhat washed out. I realized most of my anime is 720p anyway so that wasn't much of an issue. I also noticed that refresh rate on plasma was an ass load better (600hz vs 240hz) and the response time was better. That leads to a lot less motion blur. My fears about life span were already put to rest. The panasonic was priced at $599 and the samsung at $649. I liked the image on the samsung better so that's what I settled on. Then it rang up at $599 :e39: In the end I paid half the price of the LCD I might have bought instead. The only real trade off was I got a 50" instead of a 55". But after looking at it next to my old set I don't really feel like I went down in size.
