But what do you do when the battery runs out of juice? Learn the primitive arts so you can do it easily then also carry a flint and steel which is compact, works wet or dry and has no expiration date or shelf life.

These are the little things that can mean life and death in these kinds of situations. Survival is about self reliance and batteries aren't a replenishable resource.

Yes!!! I'm in Risk Management (Albeit I'm on the ERM/Legal side) but our department is responsible for the BC plan.

Seeing how that was done and the series of shakers we've had in the recent past, I put together a pretty substantial kit that I store in a weather sealed box out back. Lots of long storage food, Lots of water, a bunch of camping supplies, tools, duct tape, canopies, tarps clothes, shoes and a full medical complement both in the emergency kit and in each of our cars. I also have shoes and jackets (just incase you need to boogie in a hot second) stored under our bed and an emergency backpack of basics in each room (flashlights, multifunction tool etc)

Almost "too much" prep, but peace of mind is worth the couple hundred I spent in supplies.

Shade, I was just throwing that out there. I have a zippo, a ton of flints and a bunch of fluid. I will be worm food long before that zippo quits or I run out of the consumables for it. I guess a flint and steel with some lint would be a little more "Red Dawn", but I can't see me needing it.

I go through my zombie kit when I change the smoke alarm batteries, spring forward, fall back.
