I speak English... I lived in a high-density Hispanic/Latino (whichever you prefer - migrant farm workers mostly) community and had to learn conversational Spanish in order to communicate with a good portion of the people, so it was cool... I also lived on "the border" between "white" and "Mexican" Mt. Vernon... even my apartment managers were that way... he was Mexican, and his wife was white... it was cool...

And I had like a dozen home-style Mexican restaurants in like a 2 second drive...

My first language was Cantonese Chinese, but I don't speak it anymore (my babysitter was Chinese and only spoke Chinese to me, so I just learned it when I started to speak). I haven't spoken it since I was 4 or 5. It really freaked people out when perfect, fluent Cantonese came out of the mouth of this little white kid. Obviously, English is my other first language.

I have also studied a lot of Spanish and French, and some Italian. My Spanish is okay -- really, I can only read/understand some of it, forget speaking, and my French is decent. I lived in France for a summer, and the total immersion really helped a lot. My Italian is not so hot, although I can still read/understand a good amount.
