Fundamentalism and fanaticism are always frightening. It seems to me that the view the author holds equates to the exact opposite view that al Qaeda holds of the west. If any of that is actually true, one can conclude that bringing democracy to the middle east is doomed to fail in terms of stopping the hate and the killing that results from it. He seems to advocate genocide, much like Hitler. Are the Arabs the new Jews? Are we the new Nazis?

Poonawalla writes: "This war will continue until the traditional crippled Arab culture is shattered. It won't end until they embrace reform or have it forced on them. Until a year ago, we were willing to be patient and let them embrace it slowly. Now we have no choice: we have to force them to reform because we cannot be safe until they do."

Is this the democracy we are gifting them? Sounds like Adolf reincarnate.

Ody,

Unlike the Nazis back in the 30's and 40's the Jews were not attacking anyone in a terroristic fashion.

There is a large difference between the Nazi/Jewish situation during WWII and the Civilized Person/Arab terrorist today. And the democracy we are gifting them will allow them to have educated and developed countries free from tyranical rule...that does not sound like Adolf to me.

Get your head out of your liberal textbooks...they are really brainwashing you.

I wouldn't call it "the civilized world versus arab terrorists."

I also wouldn't say that we are "gifting Arab countries with democracy and freeing them from tyrranical rule." The U.S. has friendly relations with countries like Kuwait, Jordan and Saudi Arabia despite the fact that they are essentially theocratic monarchies, and I seriously doubt there are any plans to topple those dictators. Arab culture is not western culture. If you asked the citizens of those countries how they feel about their governments, they would most likely say they like what their King does because they keep things running smoothly. The desire for self-determination just doesn't exist in that culture like it does in ours.

Arab is an ethnicity, and to say that every Arab is a Muslim is the same as saying that every white person is a Chrsitian.

The countries I was reffering to were Iraq and Kuwait. In both cases we overthrew tyrannical rulers (saddam Hussein and the Taliban) and are in the process of establishing governments that are represented by the people. I agree we have friendly relations with Arab countries as well that we have no intention of toppling their governments.

If you would not call it "the civilized world versus arab terrorists" what would you classify it as?

Two different types of civilization. Implicit in your statement is that terrorists are uncivilized.

I do not think the blatant killing of innocent civilians is considered civilized. Flying planes into the World Trade Center or suicide bombings in Israel is not civilized in my book. So yes I think terrorists are very uncivilized!

Wow...what an ignorant essay. I think maybe the guy should actually read and try to understand the Qu'ran before he starts making false accusations.
Although I'm sure that anyone who listens to the media will think that he's telling the truth and that the Qu' ran says to "conquer the world and spread Islam by any mean necessary".

As for oppressing women...Women during the Islamic empire had just as many rights as the men. You can't look at fundamentalists nowadays that twist the religion and make it seem horrible and unfair.
