A really good idea!

but your going on the chances that you'll get a couple thousand strikes in that "large field".... that's unlikely.

What kind of capacitor? Do you mean like a "flux" capacitor?

You'd be risking your business on odds that are tremendously against you. Also, haven't you heard the saying"Lightning never strikes the same place twice." Not to bring you down or anything, but it wouldn't work... in fact it would be such a huge failure that you'd never live it down, kind of like those guys that looked all stupid trying to build a plane, but all they had was a bike with wings...

I've thought of so many things we could use.
For instance, night vision goggles. Yes they have them, but they aren't in color. If they could make goggles that measure the wavelengths of objects and compare those wavelengths with wavelengths of actual colors, then it would display the right colors and have a color image instead of green.

Replace it? Damn, I didn't think of that. Maybe, a computer can be hooked to the capacitor/batterypack that measures how much the capacitor/batterypack is full. Once it reads it full, it then positively charges the pole so lightning doesn't strike it anymore? Here we go, when the computer senses that the capacitor/batterypack is full, it then reroutes the lightning rod to the ground. Ah ha!
