For instance, night vision goggles. Yes they have them, but they aren't in color. If they could make goggles that measure the wavelengths of objects and compare those wavelengths with wavelengths of actual colors, then it would display the right colors and have a color image instead of green.
i'm pretty sure the reason they use green is because the human eye can best distinguish between shades of green. so in a low light situation, we use green so we can better percieve contrast. i'm sure eventually down the line they will figure out some way to get color night vision.
