Default DSLR repairs.. worth it?

Anyone ever have to get their camera fixed? It's not reading my cards or formatting correctly. Already tried just buying brand new card to see if that was the problem.. still nothing. None of the pins look bent to me.. but I'm going to start bringing it around to local photo shops today. There's a chance I may have to send it off to Sony if I don't find something local. Dammit...

What's the issue? I've got a problem with a 40D body that I have with a common Error 99. I dug up endless threads/discussions/videos online and even a Canon troubleshooting guide but no luck on fixing it on my own. A local camera shop offered to send it to their Richmond facility to repair it and they are estimating $50-$200 repair so I'll send it off one day. I guess I'm not in a rush since I picked up a 7D.

I thought it was a real dslr not a sony j/k ive come to find that most real repairs on low end dslr's arent worth because for a couple extra bucks more you can buy a new rig, but ive only seen this to be true with canon and nikon. Not too sure about sony's repair pricing cant hurt to ask.

:werd: Took it to a local camera shop and we did a few more trouble shooting things... it was what I was afraid of.. bent pin. So.. they're shipping it off and depending on what it boils down to.. I may get it repaired or just get a new body.

Oh snap. Yeah.. we'll see what the deal is. Ideally I don't really have the money right now for a brand new camera. ... well.. no.. let me re-phrase that.. I don't feel like spending the money for a new camera right now. I'll find out in about a week what the damage is. I mean.. the lens is fine.. so I would just really only need a new body... if I decide to stick with Sony.
