I know why it does this... and I know how to fix it.

Step one... Unplug modem
Step two... Grab modem and put in backpack
Step three... Get on bike
Step four... Ride to Earthlink office
Step five... Throw DSL modem on the floor in their main lobby thing
Step six... Cancel Earthlink service because it is teh suck!
Step seven... Get SPC DSL, or Time Warner's Roadrunner (like me)

Problem solved.

Btw, I used to have a dial up from Mindspring and it was EXCELLENT, I mean 100 pings were common. Now, ever since Earthlink bought them, you see "mainstreaming" in other words, shorting the ammount of servers/bandwidth like AOL does.
