Streetable?
I'm confused with the term streetable or street legal.
People say stuff like your brakes aren't going to be street legal or your cams aren't.
Can someone define what makes something not street-legal and what they check for.

Well you can't just drop anything you want into your car. There are standards. And you have to follow laws.
The term "street legal" means it's legal for street use. Public roads. As compared to drag race only....
Can't put a car that is specifically designed for drag on the street. It's no legal.

Streetable and street legal are two different things. Street legal is obvious. It's stuff that is okayed by the law and CARB and other DEQ regulations. You can have a non-street legal car that is streetable. Streetable meaning it can be driven on the street in real world driving situations. Cams being street legal...well...I think any cam is street legal, however, a big ass lopey cam will not be very streetable as the car may barely idle. I can slap on an F-MAX turbo that isn't street legal but is streetable by all means. There's a difference.
Here's my take:
"Street legal" means just what it says--that the car is in compliance with applicable national, state and local laws. In other words, a street legal car is one that a cop couldn't ticket for equipment violations.
"Streetable" (IMHO) means a racing car that could possibly be used for transportation, but isn't really a road car. Usually it's drag racers' jargon for a road car that has been modified to run in a class that requires a certain amount of stockness. Sure you could drive it on the road, but realistically you wouldn't.

If you have emissions inspections where you live, find out if they do a physical inspection for pollution controls. Where I live, they don't look unless you fail the tailpipe test. And if you have OBDII they don't check at all. If you're in CA and have aftermarket parts, make sure that they all have their CARB stickers attached.
Cali sucks for smog and CARB exemption stickers.....I appreciate the police protecting us, but giving us tickets for BS like that is a joke and a waste of time and tax money.
