Why do the unflappable liberals have to use 25 pages of nonsense, ramble on and on, yell, scream, and pout at the top of their lungs to get their point accross? The rest of us just need a few lines of common sense spoken firmly yet calmly. Odysseus, I'm sure you have a summary somewhere...... ahh, couldn't prove it in a few lines?

Oh, so I guess you missed out on how much we pissed off the Arab community. Or that we didn't get Osama or Saddam.

These people are religious fanatics. All we are doing is giving them martyrs for the cause. And as we push more moderates to the far right with our actions, we are providing more supporters to donate money to terrorist organizations.


If you actually believe that the US can somehow eliminate terrorism at its source, you are terribly naive.

 

You must have forgotten that the war on terror will go in indefinitely. Who really knows? But one thing can be certain: so long as Bush is in office (re-election is all but certain), and his successor is just as responsible, dedicated, and dependable, the war on terror will go on with success. My greatest fear is somewhere down the line a President is elected without such backbone and abilities (in other words, a far left Democrat). That's when the tide will turn for the worst. But I don't think this country will let that happen. The overwhelming majority approve of him, and if the tax cut package goes through that will for all intents and purposes seal his second term. It's the only thing that kept his Father from a second term.

 

The important thing is to fight terror at home, not abroad. You cannot fight an enemy that has no command structure by assaulting their training camps. All the essential training for 9/11 occured here, not in the middle east.

If you push too hard, they go underground and pop up later with twice the capability.

 

Why do you think the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Safety Administration were created? That and a significant streamlining of the INS, and the most coordinated restructuring of all our top security and law enforcement agencies (CIA, FBI, etc) are the most sweeping changes of our top agencies in history. In a matter of 18 months they have gone from each one essentially operating on its own to a solid, well oiled operation. You bet we're fighting terror at home better than ever. The President is briefed on every single threat every day when he wakes up. All of them. Before his morning jog. We are more informed, prepared, and able to fight terror than ever before. While there may not be a 100% guarantee that we will never be attacked again, I would say there's a pretty good bet that nothing like 9/11 will happen again.

The fact that we haven't been attacked since is a testament to our prowess at home (and abroad).

 

We weren't attacked in 2000. Or 99. Or 98. Or 97... get my drift? 2 years after a massive attack which took a decade to plan is small potatos. No need for us to be patting ourselves on the back for that.

I think they need the money more than our military needs to fire a couple dozen more cruise missiles. That's the issue here. We are creating threats rather than deterring them.
