Make sure you're getting continuous power to your router, better yet, plug it into a UPS if you have one. Also, check to make sure that the patch cable is not defective.

it's a linksys router, and it's gotta be an issue with the setup of my connection to the router, because the wireless connection to the router never has this problem

This may sound dumb, but did you try a different cable? It could be you have a bad end or corroded end on it.

have you also tried turning off everything then turning it back on?

power off the modem then the router.

then wait a few minutes, first power the modem (dsl modem) back on and wait until it goes through the full test and line sync, only when it's done power on the router.

this trick usually keep my connection alive for 2 or 3 months at a time, then I have to do it again.

i suspect maybe the dsl modems were not speced to be on 24x7 365. you can argue with that theory but you can't argue with the results

btw my dsl modem in the older alcatel (external not internal) with black housing

i just reset everything and i have cable because we have much faster cable service than dsl, we'll see how long it lasts, and i think dsl accounts change ips everyonce and a while that's why you had to reset it

also, it could be that your router is acting as a dhcp server, giving the computers their ip addresses. if the ip expires, then you would have to get a new one (by renewing it). you might check in the config of it to extend the license time on the ips (or even set them to not expire). or use static ips on the network (since small networks don't need dynamic ips).
