Default The Right to Die - (keep it mature please)

Alright guys, my professor assigned us to write a debate paper and I chose Whether the right to die is right or wrong. At first I was for it, thinkin anyone thats terminally ill and is mentally stable should have that choice. But it could have a lot of backlashes to it. As I was reading on, I became more of against it. Look at Kevorkian for example, hes the extreme case ofcourse, but assisted suicide is happening everywhere, and secretly which is a bad thing. If it ever became legal, other laws might pass that maybe not just the terminally ill people, but maybe handicapped, or even old people want the right to die. It would have to be heavily regulated and not somethin thats just an easy way out. I believe more lower income people, would choose to die because they simply cant afford the treatment, which is a harsh reality, and not everyone can afford medicine. I guess im moreso FOR the right to die which would have to be heavily regulated. What are your guys views on it?

it is a slippery slope...i.e. : where do you draw the line. The law is great because it is black and white, and allows judgements to be made in the grey area. basically, no, killing people for any reason should be wrong, no doubt there...

I believe I should have the right to kill myself or elect another person to do it for me.

I don't see why people can't choose to end their lives if they are terminally ill.

and if theyre too weak should they allow someone else to do it?

what if they are a burden on a family, but not comatose (retarded, limbless, etc), should the family get that right?

I think the person should have this right. If the person is too weak to do so, then he/she has the rights to hire someone to do it.

However, if the person is not able to make the decision, the family should not have that right.....just my $.02

Legal assisted suicide would leave the poor, elderly and disabled without adequate protections against suggestions from doctors and family members that they choose suicide
