If they can't even kill themselves then how could they make a rational decision on having someone assist them in that process? I was just curious on your opinion on that.
As far as the right to die, I think that everyone deserves to decide if they want to live or die. Espeically those whom are terminally ill (i.e cancer, Aids etc) I wouldn't go so far though as letting doctors prescribe or give an overdose of a drug to help them die faster. I think that it should be up to the person to kill themselves if they wish. It needs to be regulated though, because I could see someone killing another person then saying "oh well they told me too" and i do not think that should be allowed. If they want to die, it's up to them. The only time it would be ok in my opinion for someone to ask another person to kill them or let them die would be in a hospital situation where the person is not conscious to make the decision (i.e I have told all of my close family that if I am ever in an accident where I would be paralyzed from the neck down or basically a vegetable with no chance of a normal life to pull the plug).
I am all for making euthanasia legal. If someone wants to die then let them, assisted suicide is a lot less painless than most common suicide methods. The bullet implodes the brain and you are left faceless. OD weakens the spincter muscle and you left covered in excreta. Euthanasia is a lot more clean and allows the person to die a lot more peacefully.

and if theyre too weak should they allow someone else to do it?
what if they are a burden on a family, but not comatose (retarded, limbless, etc), should the family get that right?

No. The right to end your own life must completely rest in the persons hands themself. If they did not give written permission to a person, to "elect" them to end their life, under a given set of circumstances -- then the person should be treated, and their life sustained for as long as reasonably possible.
The last thing I want is to be in a Coma, but coherant and just glad that I can hear everyone even if I can't touch them; and then have someone pull the plug because it's what they think I'd want -- or because it's a "burdon" on them.
Unless I've told that person, and it can be proved, that I wanted them to pull the plug, or end my terminally ill life by any other means they deem necessary, my "pathetic" life should be sustained.

Talkin more along the lines of having a doctor perscribing medication, like an overdose of morphine to kill the patient.

My grandmother was given 6 months to live, in severe pain (due to a massive complication of multiple types of cancer) or she could be put on Morphine, and I quote; "Live as long as you'd like".
She clicked the little button as much as she could and died in less than a day.
Well my paper is finally done, wrote 5 pages and then a little more, learned a lot on this subject, like I never knew my grandfather was in such pain and agony that he shot himself in the head because of all the heart surgeories that he had to go through, they should of just gave him a bunch of morphine =(
