Default Ask the people: What car is best.

No choices, just a plain matter of opinion. I'm trying to narrow down my possibilities for a new car to just a few. all kinds of cars will be considered. cars, mind you, not trucks, suvs, vans or any of that nonsense. just cars. sedans, coupes, hatches. preferably none with 8-cyl. motors (we are in a gas price uprising, after all). Stock turbo, or no turbo. my main concerns are:

price (20k-ish or less)
daily-drivable
power (not low like a civic, but not high like a V8)
power windows/locks (absolutely necessary for me )
reliable
and can withstand upgrades to the suspension for the life of the car (just in case I feel like going to the autox one day in the distant future)
edit: also needs to have a back seat.

I know I've posted similar stuff before, but please bear with me here... I gotta do this research now, so that I can look around, and by the time I have the money, be set on a car I want. So tell me what you guys think, eh? Thanks people.

I was looking at the ITR, myself. I'd love to get one of those 4-door ones, but I thought they were only manufactured in Japan? :dunno:

Oh, and I forgot to mention. I'll need a back seat. so that miata is kinda out. Nice car, but a little dinky for my own tastes.

Go Mazda. Mazda 6 or Mazdaspeed Protege. Very affordable cars with plenty of power. Suspension is no question. Also a Subaru Imreza 2.5 RS would fit the bill. Affordable, cheaper insurance than WRX, pleny of power to the ground and AWD!! Those are my suggestions.

my problem with subaru is the weak tranny I've been hearing about a lot. Maybe that's just a WRX problem?

Protege would be good, I guess. stock turbo, 4-dr. Is it AWD, or front? I forgot.
Mazda6 was my front-runner for a while, but then my pricing went down a little, and that took the V6 out of the equation. But there may still be hope. I'll have to find out.

nice ones. thanks

Hmm, could you finance an Acura RSX Type-S? Next best thing to an ITR and it's new!

I would think the weak tranny issues were associated with the WRX due to it's high power output. 160hp and 161tq hardly seems like enough power to strain a tranny. The Protege is FWD, 170hp. The stereo in that car is the shiet!! I wish all car manufacturers could fit that bill. Bumps and performance.
