Default What should I do with this space? *my yard*

Yes, the yard is work in progress. I know of all the attention that it needs. After organizing the garage a bit, I want my next project to be getting rid of these raised brick things. I have no idea what I want to replace it with though. I have thought of just keeping the same shape and replace the brick with treated lumber. I thought about stacked stones...but I dont want to spend too much money on it.

What would you guys do?

I was going to get rid of the hedges and replace it with someone with less maintenance.

This one right here has a couple tree stumps...but I was going to get rid of those bushes and plant a couple trees.

Ont eh left side in the first pic I would toss the boxwood and move them somewhere else (front yard maybe) then plant a Dogwood and some smaller brush type plants and maybe some flowers to spice it up a hair.

I mean I want to replace the bricks. I have an idea of what plants to put in....LOW LOW maintenance.

Oh, I would take out the brick and replace with large rocks. When you do it though make sure you cut enough edge between the rock and the start of the grass so it's easier to edge and maintain a barrier. You can lay out some plastic in the space to minimize weeds and keep them from taking too deep a root if they do grow.

Something along these lines for the rock is what I was thinking.

and ditto on the edging with the lawn. I HATE mowing the edge with the bricks in the way.

Yeah that looks good, I was having a hard time finding a good pic of exactly what I meant.

Like Darkstar said a flat shovel creates a nice space, you can leave it without the plastic underneath but may require a bit more work when you mow. It shouldn't be too bad though because if you keep up you should be able to yank up the weeds quickly by hand.
