Well yeah, but in the end it's more like peeing in the ocean.

still... it's sad and if it were to happen to people close to you you'd find your logic irrespectfull and hate on whoever were to say that.

And lets be honest... we all know that it's more and will be much more then only 400 people.

No I don't think so.

I make fun of the hurricane Katrina victims all the time.
I laugh every time Florida gets hit.
I make jokes about CA earthquakes.

Natural disasters happen. If the PNW chain went off and killed everyone up here it would not stop me from also making jokes.

I am not insensitive, it's just how I am.

they say most of the homes and what not were made of mud and sticks. seems like if that fell over you, it'd be safer than concrete and steel? :hsdunno:

I can't say i laugh at these people but at the same time it's like sucks that it happened but i don't necessarily feel sorry for them ....

katrina ... you built in a bowl surrounded by water essentially, what did you expect
china .... shitty building codes, inproper structure safety, houses made of mud, what did you expect

same for a lot of these other disasters where people are like poor me. yea it sucks but i have a hard time feeling sorry when you don't prepare or at least recognize you live in a place prone to such disasters and yet do nothing.

new orleans had it

china has it

majority of the time it could have been presented. especially with all the aid that our government as well as the europeans fork over .... the problem is half these third world governments are corrupt and the people too meek to rise up and say something.

and you don't need money or materials or education to prepare ... common sense should tell you don't build next to a volcano, don't build next to a giant hill that is just like every other hill that causes mudslides each year ... don't build a city in a giant depression protected only by levys

it doesn't work for every situation i agree but most of the time like i said it's preventable. at least on teh scale that you see it

You need to see the world my friend... you need to explore those places and see the politics and education these people have. Unlike what you think you do need an education to rise up agaisnt a government, you need education to realize the land youre ancesters have lived on for thousands of years might be prone to such disaters, you need support to move to a land with less risks.

IMO you're blinded by the comfort level we have here in the "developped world" and you wouldn't imagine how some people live in the world. I'm not talking how they live in shacks, i'm talking relize that what seam common sense to you is actaully from education, support, ressources. All of that which we take for granted a third of the world lives without.

This I agree with.

We do (myself as well) take a lot for granted with our freedoms and acessibility to information.
