E-Readers v.kindle vs nook
anyone have one?
i'm thinking about getting one, kinda tired of having to go to a store everytime i want to read a book and with the kindle and nook both offering the ATT network free for download they seem very tempting
looking at the nook, since it has microsd expansion and compatibility with library e-lending and google books
but obviously the kindle is the top dog since its on to second gen
thoughts?

I don't like the nook as much as the kindle. There's too much lag-time between page changing and its frustrating when you're reading something exciting. Screens are about equal quality (both look like real text). Boot-time is longer for the nook. That stupid color thing on the nook is retarded.

right, but the kindle doesn't offer the ePub usability does it?
my local library has the free online ePub catalog, and i dont think the kindle can access it but i know the nook can

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I'd like to pick up an e-reader before my honeymoon at the end of July, but it seems like every product has strengths and weaknesses. Are there going to be any significant new e-reader releases by summer?

i haven't heard of any coming up. i really think the strongest two are kindle and nook because of the amazon / b&n support. barnes has a more extensive library from what i understand as well as better epub support (works with most public library e lending services) whereas the kindle does not.
the nook also has a removable batter as well as microSD support. kindle has neither
however the kindle has slightly longer battery life and it sounds like the software is a bit smoother.
i think i'm going to go play with a nook at lunch and see what i think

I didnt buy an e-reader because none of them have what I want.
None are very good with textbooks or pictures yet
None do color (a must for science textbooks)
I know amazon is running some studies on campuses, making students use an e-reader for all their courses. But I haven't seen an e-reader able to format pictures and link stuff coherently. Maybe one day...

Kindle has free 3G service. You can't do much with it besides grab email and buy more books, but it's a feature.
The Nook has a page loading issue though, there's lag when you hit the button and when things are displayed.
