* An Education
* The Hurt Locker
* Inglourious Basterds
* Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire
* A Serious Man
* Up
* Up in the Air

And here are the nominations for the past 5 years...

“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Ceán Chaffin, Producers
“Frost/Nixon” Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Eric Fellner, Producers
“Milk” Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen, Producers
“The Reader” Anthony Minghella, Sydney Pollack, Donna Gigliotti and Redmond Morris, Producers

Well Star Trek had no chance to win Special Effects b/c of Avatar. And the only other two nominations it had was in sound - both of which went to The Hurt Locker.

Even still, you could take out the 5 "worst" out of the 10 nominated for this year and still have a solid list.

I feel bad for Meryl Streep and Quentin just because they deserve to win one (lead actress and director) by now

Streep has won two and Tarantino already has one I'm pretty sure.

If they couldn't win against this crowd they don't deserve it at all.

I would argue that just about 2-3 films from each year you listed would win over The Hurt Locker if they competed in the same year.
