home audio crew v.speakerbars
anyone have any experience with speaker bars such as

?
i want a little bit more sound than what i get from my samsung tv, but i don't want a whole surround sound setup (due to cost, space and shape of the room). i'm sure it'll sound better than the tv speakers, but the part i question is how well it simulates "surround sound".
i just pictured the samsung one, but i'm open to any ideas if anyone has any experience.

I've been selling stereo equipment for years, and the sound bars are pretty good.
The Samsung is one of the best sounding on the market right now. It has good clear sound, the software to integrate it with the Samsung TVs is good, and the cordless subwoofer is seamlessly integrated. One note about the Samsung sound bar; If I remember correctly, it only has one sound input, which is an optical input. So make sure your TV has optical out.
The Sony is abysmal. It has good highs, and good mid-range, but I have literally never seem a Sony sound bar stay sold; you can't even hear the subwoofer, which is half the purpose of buying a sound bar.
The Vizio sound bar actually sounds really good. But personally, I would never buy anything Vizio; I see 'em returned all the time.
If you could find one of the older Samsung sound bars, those are even better then the new ones. They have build in DVD players, and they sound AMAZING. You may be able to find one online somewhere.

speakers bare are great IF
You have a small room
The room is rectangular/square shape
TV is mounted on one of the wall (not corner)
There's no furniture pieces (on the 2 sides of the wall) that's as tall or taller than the speakers bar mounting location.
It uses the wall to reflects the sounds, and if there's any obstructive objects in the way, it won't bounce correctly, this wouldn't give you the "ultimate" virtual surround sound feeling like it supposes to.
Of course, the front & center channel would still be normal.

so basically, since there is technically a wall missing on the right hand side of the tv, the surround aspect won't work very well...
that's why i was interested in the samsung too, it'll go with my tv and apparently my samsung remote will work with it fine.

i have several receivers back at my parent's house and lots of speakers, but nothing of great quality and i don't want to deal with wires and stands and what not, so i think i might just go with the bar.
bought one for my sister as a christmas present and have listened to a few different ones
being somewhat of a picky ear...i would never use ANY soundbar in my own set up
lack of dynamic (obviously) and the simulated surround sound just doesn't do it for me
if you want something just to enhance the movie experience and don't want to bother w/ wires...then these will do
just don't expect more out of it
