Default DIY home crew, door slabs

Anyone ever just install a door slab, vs buying one prehung? They are something like 20 bucks at HD and Im wondering if anyone has done it here. I know its probably not easy but I thought I would see if anyone here has done it.

Get a level and take a look to see if the current frame is straight. If it is, and they sell slabs that are your exact size, go for it. If the current frame is not level, then it i think youre better off buying a prehung since those are easy to adjust with shims.

Are the slabs routered for hinges already?

(this is coming from a home improvement noob )

Ill take a look, I have a feeling they are not level

Door slabs will not have the hinge mortise, you have to do that

I dont think its difficult, you just trace the hinge, cut the outline with a utility knife then chip out with a chisel. But I bet they sell a jig for doing it with a router.

I just bought some new tools, they are arriving soon

if it's an exterior door dont even waste your time trying to put a new door in an old frame, actually i don't think most places will even sell the door itself seperate from the frame anymore

as for interior doors, not as big a deal. a lot more margin for error as it doesnt need a solid airtight seal
