Any additional capabilities that people talk about being able to do after jailbreaking are from apps that require jailbreaking in order to install them. So for example, running tasks in the background is from Backgrounder, switching between tasks is from Kirikae or multifl0w.

So, short answer, yes, after you install the correct apps that you gain access to by jailbreaking.

Ok so it's not the jailbreak itself that allows running multiple things, you have to download apps for that?

Waze sucked in my area... gave me crappy routes even after "learning" my driving patterns

MotionX Drive was pretty decent.

havent tried navigon yet, but its sitting on my desktop

Running tomtom right now it runs pretty much like my standalone tomtom gps.

I performed a backup so that I'm ready to jailbreak and replace everything in case it bricks...but it said none of my apps were able to be transferred because they're not authorized to be played on this computer.

Any ideas? I really only have 2 that I paid for...I'd like to keep those.

I don't know what you mean by running multiple things? Jailbreak is Jailbreak is Jailbreak. It allows you to put apps not approved by apple onto your iphone, along with customizing the springboard. blackra1n is by far the simplest way to jailbreak the phone. Then it installs "CYDIA" which is like the jailbreak form of the intunes store.

I understand this. But say I want to be listening to pandora, while being able to use Safari/other apps to look stuff up, and text message...so run multiple apps at once.

Still trying to figure out how to backup my apps when iTunes won't let me.

I thought jailbreak meant free apps :squint:

They want 4.99 for multifl0w

There are some paid jailbreak apps. I think kirikae is free and also does task switching, just not as slick as multifl0w.
