seriously I would just say "hi" when I had nothing else to say. If it means 10 hi's and a smile then that's what it is. It's less awkward than looking at your feet and pretending you don't see her. If you have something interesting to say then say it. But don't force it and come off fake and weird.

On a side-note, there's a cute tech that works across the hall who I don't know. Anyway, I pass by her 3-4x a day and I had been politely smiling in the halls. Now I upgraded to a hello and I noticed she started wearing more sexy clothing
