Theres so many loopholes in the IWC that it's impossible for it to ever be an effective tool for controlling whale hunting. theres no incentive to follow the rulings and no penalty for not. theres no general consensus on how to even provide counts on whale populations.

what started out as a organization designed to provide for sustainable hunting has turned into a group that has banned whaling. it's a joke and honestly i dont blame these countries for doing what they want
Japan hasn't filed an objection, hence they're violating the IWC. The hunters, who don't represent the government or its intentions, are in direct violation of their countries agreement.

People on the show are doing what they can to enforce the agreement, and aside from illegally boarding ships (which this show does not do), they are within their legal right to obstruct commercial whaling.

and the ONLY reason japan actually went through with signing was because of pressure from the US to greatly reduce japanese quotas on normal fishing in US coastal waters if they didnt sign. they HAD lodged a formal protest which would have made them exempt from it but withdrew upon this threat

i'm not trying to argue the points of the ICW or the merits or cons of it as a organization. i agree it has brought the whaling populations up to large numbers and at the same time i see it as a totally beuracratic and useless legal authority. all i'm saying isthat whaling is NOT illegal despite what some anti-whaling groups such as the sea shepards might say

There are things that even PETA are good for...oh hell yeah they go to extremes, but they do have at least 1 good thing about them. They brought things to light that otherwise would go unnoted. Same deal as the Sea Shepard. They are bringing to light the extreme fishing of endangered animals which are protected through many conventions...sure may not be laws but still.

You call yourself a conservationist, then you should show some concern about the whales that are endangered etc. I am for CORRECT fishing/hunting. If hunting was legal 24/7/365 and deer were endangered, would you still hunt them? I bet not.
yea i would, but if they were endangered i'd have my own herd as my family has considered for many years. and its beside the point

again you use a invalid point as it doesnt matter how many days a year the hunt is legal. its the quota assigned. just because a season is open for x amount of days doesnt mean you can take whatever you want every day

and there are better ways to bring people to your cause than throwing acid on people and illegally boarding their boats. it's going to alienate more people than it brings to you

and i bring up the minke whale because its the most fished. its the one with the most data. you cant point out the blue whale argument and go OH OH we should ban all whaling because of this one whale. maybe you dont realize but theres always going to be someone who breaks the law... someones always going to poach, always going to go after the rarest of the rare regardless of how off limits it is. just because one type is endangered doesnt mean the others should be off limits. i'm pointing out the minke because it is a species that in its current numbers CAN and SHOULD be hunted sustainably if theres a demand for it on the market

btw estimates put the blue whale at between 5k and 12k in population h:

Read this:

It shows that the Sea Shepherd is operating legally, and whaling in parts of australia are Illegal. So it IS illegal in some parts, where the Sea Shepherd btw does enforce. h:

actually thats not true

there is no legal ground to the ICW so its not as if these sea shepards are preventing illegal acts

its been proven in the US where hunters were harrassed on public land by anti-hunting activists. the courts found in favor of the hunters as they were abiding by all the pertainable LAWS. nothing coming from the ICW is a law that nations can be held to

if you are talking in relation to hunters who are going out and fishing/whaling without any sort of permit from their country then thats poaching and completely different discussion.

1.) It's a bunch of long haired geeks on a boat.
2.) A fat captain who doesn't do shit.

The only "cool" dudes are the ones that work on deck and always talk shit and threaten too quit at least once a season lol.

Half the time they go out and fuck with the japanese and it fails miserably...Last week they took out this rope and tried to get it caught in the whalers propellers..tried 4 times and fail each time..The japanese have nets that protect them from the acid. Then the japanese started throwing flash bangs and 1/2 inch metal nuts at them...Then the little boats got lost cause they don't listen

oh bullshit

don't tell me you actually believe this propaganda terrorist bullshit

nothing in UN charters says its ok for individuals to go out and intentionally ram and sink other vessels or disable them at sea.

the only reason these people arent in jail is simply because they do what they do in international waters and theres no clear way to convict them of what they do.

so what you're telling me is that it's totally ok for some guy and his merry band of assholes to head out to sea and start enforcing whatever rules they think however they feel and however they want to interpret those rules simply because they think they can?

their claims of the UN charter have zero legal backing. they're a bunch of eco terrorists who are going to wind up dead when they go up against the wrong group of people who have had enough of their shit

Fuck the Sea Shepard and its crew. Im all for conserving and protecting Earth's living resources but I strongly dissagree with the type of effort the Sea Shepard displays. Their ways endanger peoples lives out at sea and influence other extremist to go about in the same fashion. The money they spend to gas up that piece of shit boat could go to a more efficient effort in the courtroom filled with the world's "EPA bigwigs".
