Default is your company shy (or lazy) when it comes to new technology?

My work still uses MSIE 6... and Windows XP sp2. :uhhok:

their standard issue mobile phone is the classic motorola (startac?).... :ugh:
their standard issue Bberry is old school box... :ugh:

when i asked the IT guy, he had no idea why they wouldnt upgrade to newer things... maybe a contract?

that doesnt explain why they don't use FireFox as the browser, or even update MSIE to the latest version...

i know some of you guys work for the IT dep. of your company, whats holding it back? familiarity? price? lazyness?
is your company stuck in the technological past?

my work is on MSIE 6 and XP Pro. When you've got thousands of computers to replace/upgrade, sometimes if its still working and functioning at a minimum level, there is no cost advantage to upgrading. I guess it all depends on the industry, though. We're a bank, so it doesn't much make sense to have the latest and greatest desktop technology, as long as the existing systems in place are adequate.

nah we usually get nice shit

company phones are pretty much all blackberry 8820 world editions, nobody need an upgrade yet so no storm or bold as of yet
my laptops about 3 years old and im getting close to an upgrade, but right now new lappys are T60 series and for the most part we have a say in what hardware we want/need

we just spent like close to a mil here a couple months ago putting all new cisco routers in our retail stores just so it would be easier to RDP into them for us and so we could see them on network and so they can use warehouse phone extensions like everyone else instead of having to know actual numbers

for the most part its a price vs need thing around here ... usually if i need or want something i get it simply because my work is some of the more resource intensive stuff thats done. everyone else in the office the most resources they use are excel or RDP into a server box and work off that machine

don't want to implement it because they are afraid of new things... dinosaur-aged-people in the positions responsible for making these decisions, denying them because.. well.. they dont feel like learning a new thing.
