holy crap that's a lot. for a 40-80k house here...which does not exist...but if it did, it would be 400-800/yr prop tax

Depends on your monthly income and outflow.

The bank will let you go 35% of your gross in monthly outflow, but if a lot of that 35% is taken with credit cards, car payments, etc. then the amount they will let you have is greatly reduced.

I pay about 1250 a year in prop taxes on just under 1/4 acre lot in town with a 1700 sq ft house.
