stop giving money to other countries because they have a sandstorm.
I dont understand why we need to give them money for their "acts of god" , we cant afford to take care of our people

for the OPs question.

I honestly don't know. I've taken upper division economics classes in college and I don't know. I can only hope (with fingers crossed), that those in charge now are making the right moves or will make the right move. I've no idea what the right moves are, but ask me again in 10 years and I can tell you exactly what they were h:
how is that a problem

at the end of the day its not the number of units that keeps a company in business but the dollars earned. our manufacturers are showing more dollars generated than chinese companies and the products we are making are higher profit items to begin with. if we are still posting higher dollar figures and higher profit returns then how are we "not making anything"

i'm not the one that said were not making anything so you're barking up the wrong tree there buddy.

the measurement you use supports your side, one can just as easily use a different measurement to support their side.

im just pointing out where that argument is flawed, not coming after you.

quantity produced is just a bad figure to use in a case like this ... sure china makes millions more dolls than us but boeing sells 4 airplanes (or less) and their sales are equal to that million dolls ....... fact of the matter is the world bases these things on dollar figures not unit figures and the US still leads.

but a lot of the boeing parts aren't made in the US. it's a never ending argument. for example my m coupe is made (assembled) in the US but the engine was made in germany. I don't remember the domestic content but it's like 50-60%. now when the car sells for $40K does the whole amount get credited to US or only 50-60%? i'm not going to sit here and pretend to know how such things are calculated but it's something to think about.

but do they actually use that 40k sticker price in figuring manufactured goods?

or when they figure it are they only figure parts made not the actual car sitting on a retail lot?

granted theres a lot to think about but the bottom line is the argument that the US doesnt make anything just doesnt hold ground. we just dont make what we used to because of globalization. I've also learned the US is one of the largest chemical producers in the world still. many chemicals needed throughout the world are only made in the US simply because noone else has the facilities or the skills to. the whole we make nothing is all political mongering if you ask me. politicians like to trump it up to strike fear into peoples hearts to sway voting just like global warming
