the point of a "secondary" j-frame would be to be a "carry when you can't carry" gun but also be there "just in case."
i think of it as one of those "have it and not need it than need it and not have it" type of things.
i have a friend whose life was potentially saved by a jframe and he was right behidn his car and had an AR in the trunk. a pistol in your pocket is ALWAYS there, regardless of attire.
and my glock hasn't had any failures after about 3-4000 rounds, most of them matches and training. i.e. not plinking at the range. :fawk:

the "he had a bunch of guns" argument will be a lot more effective than a hollowpoint argument. people have gotten used to the idea of hollowpoints but look at how many people think you only have to shoot a guy once. and look at how many people acted like you're crazy for even suggesting a back up. that said, a pocket gun isn't a bad idea and a J frame is a great choice. my preference is to use a pocket gun in summer and duty gun in winter carried strong side.
If it were me, I would just carry the extra mag. Carrying an extra piece would be too much of a worry for me. Hell, I even packed my P22 last weekend when we went to Thatcher Park for a hike and the thing was kind of uncomfortable (I wasn't using a holster, just a tuck in the front). I don't carry very often, only when we go somewhere that I consider to be a possible risk area, so maybe I am just not used to the metal against my gut. I think carrying a 3rd mag would be ok though in lieu of a 2nd piece. By the time you have expended your second mag, hopefully you would have found cover by then if you've had to use that many rounds. You should be able to safely load your third.
It's your time. Come over and lets see how many guns we can fit down your pants!
