In the situation described in post #1, I would trust most of the regulars because I would have the computer as collateral.
If the situation was just "spot me $500," I would only do that with select family members an one of my friends. I've had money situations go bad even with my closest friends. So regardless of how much I like someone, unless they've proven themselves to be responsible, I'm not going there.
