None of those DNS servers are working. I think that the internet is uber fucked up in this place. And the IT guy is absolutely worthless -- and I empathize with IT personnel being drastically under appreciation.

Try a different jack somehow before breaking out the pitchforks and the torches. 'could be a bad wiring job.

try opendns?

Usually the gateway is also the DNS, on smaller networks. Unless they are running their own DNS server and didn't tell you the IP's... they should have DNS open and you should be able to use what you want. I'd use OPEN DNS. 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
