I hear mixed messages on whether or not they need blood or not. some people say not to bother because they have so much that they have to throw it out...but other people say there is a shortage....anyone know the real deal?

Depends upon your blood type. If you are a universal donor, they always need that.

I have no idea what my blood type is. Doesn't matter though...I'm not eligible to donate blood....something about being around livestock in a foreign country or some shit.
I tried donating blood last year. I have an autonomic vasodilation response when a needle enters my vessels though, and I passed out. My blood pressure dropped to 80/40.
They told me I probably shouldn't bother trying to donate blood again.
