MAC question
wanting to reformat and install a fresh OS on a ibook g4
what do you recommend for an OS??

Leopard. Max the ram, before you do it. Ram is cheap these days. You should at least be able to throw a 1gig stick in that machine.

i'm thinking of that upgrading the ram too
how do i go to check the specs of the laptop?

Click on the apple in the left hand corner and select "About this Mac"
processor specs including how much ram you have will pop up.

what type of memory would fit into this laptop?
all i get from the system profiler is :
size: 512mb
type: built in
speed: built in
status: ok
