Well...there you have it
I was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief when I found out the golf tax was not approved as part of the state budget. The state legislators were proposing a 9-10.5% tax on everything related to golf: green fees, range balls, lessons, private course memberships, etc. This would have KILLED the already hurting golf industry. They only wanted to tax golf...not baseball, basketball, tennis...just golf.

C'mon now. They saw an idea to make a quick buck at the expense of the citizens of the state, and the golf courses. It would have actually hurt the state, because less people would play, and people would play less. They'd get less income tax $ from the course, on other sales of golf products, etc.

Dear Colleagues,
After months of negotiation, the Legislature has approved a budget plan that will extend through June 30, 2010. The legislation is currently on the Governor's desk and should be signed today. This excerpt from the California Budget Project (with confirmation from the Department of Finance) states that the After School Education and Safety Program will not be affected by the proposed "across the board" cuts to categorical programs or the increased flexibility granted to LEAs to transfer categorical funds to general funds.
*whew.

Word Wiwl. Was there any word in the budget about our tax refunds? All I really researched was about the golf tax.
