I thought Colts were on the kaslist, no?

Brand doesn't really matter. I prefer to build my own, but if I were a first timer and wanted something cheap, I'd get like a bushmaster oracle or one of those ARs they sell at wal-mart in the 600ish range, then grab a pair of cheapo flip up sights like Magpul MBUS and upgrade additional features later on down the road.

There are very few junk ARs on out there so nearly any brand should be fine for a low budget starter rifle. The only ones I can think of that you must avoid at all costs are Roggio Arms, Vulcan Arms, Blackthorne products, and a few other brands most people have never heard of. If I were to build a cheap ass AR, I'd go with a plastic lower like a plumcrazy or new frontier arms for $125ish, a $110 barrels from dsa (or a complete upper for $265), a CMT BCG from ar15hardware for $115, blem stripped upper from LAR for $40, flash hider from LAR for $10, upper parts kit (dustcover/spring/rollpins/FA) for $15, charging handle/handguard from local gunstore for around $40, and some metal mags from a gunstore at $6/each, and a cheapo rear sight like a Magpul MBus for $35. Total cost would be around $500 and it would be a perfectly functioning rifle minus all the bells and whistles.

Get a Ruger 10/22, I guarantee you'll love it. It's cheap, it's light, and ammo is cheaper than anything else out there.

You can get an M&P15 sport for in the $600's, you don't have to build it, get good quality, and the warranty of a big time company...and it's not a polymer receiver.

10/22 are dangerous if you like to mod stuff.

Colt has a named model on the list but the lower used for this gun is not listed. Colt's website has a section for CA compliant rifles.

Never been a fan of S&W so I didn't know that. Good to know though.

Plastic lowers aren't that bad, but the plastic FCGs are garbage. I have noticed one peculiar thing about plastic lowers that I don't think anyone else has noticed and that's this....

The two bottom ones are plastic. Aside from one being 9mm, do you see any odd dimensions?

When you start buying more and more firearms you'll soon learn that the scopes & rings which come with rifles from the factory are usually junk so the extra hundred or so bucks you're paying is pretty much just for the camo.

It's technically a new company, but from the reports I have seen their customer service is stellar and will make things right.
Windham is owned/ran by the same guy who started Bushmaster.

Picked up the M4 today - it appears that I now have five AR platform rifles (two are stripped lowers). At what point do I get put on the "people who have too many scary looking guns that limp-wristed liberal retards want to ban" list? I'm thinking I'm probably not quite there yet. Hopefully, they'll be too busy going after the camo-wearing militia dudes that have compounds in the mountains to worry about my small collection (none of which hold more than ten rounds and they all have non-detachable mags). I may qualify for the "people who have too many guns in general, which limp-wristed liberal retards also find scary and also want to ban" list though.

If you have to ask then you're probably already on it. :reechy:
